  1. I was looking for a "Hi I'm new and these are my quirks" thread, but couldn't find it. So therefore I started this one

Kicking off: I'm Inge and I live in The Netherlands, but I am of German ethnicity. I speak four languages more or less fluent and can manage myself in Italian and Spanish. I can only read Danish, Swedish, classical Greek and Latin.

I am a baby Catholic: I was received into the Church last summer and I love to share Christ's grace with the world. Trying to be a radiant light and a salting salt. I often fail miserably in this, but I keep trying. Well, that's it, I guess.

    Who's next?

  2. Hi. I'm new and these are my quirks:

My name is Jason. I live in Bloomington, Indiana USA. I have 5 children and have been married to a beautiful woman, Kristi, for 12 years. I was baptized at 2 months old as a Catholic child, but that was the last time I was in the church until 2001. I finally made my journey back over the next few years and was confirmed (finally!) in 2006.

I love being a Catholic and I love what SQPN continues to do for us in this "new media" world. I'm a web application programmer, so I spend about 12-14 hours a day on the computer. My iPhone is permanently on my hip, so I always have Fr. Roderick and all of SQPN podcasts at my finger tips!

  3. *waves at Inge*

I'm Bettina from Switzerland (from the German speakin part, currently living in the French speaking part), am what you'd call a professional philosopher (which means, yes, I can sort of live off my art) and am finishing my PhD studies in 13th century Philosophy and University History here at the University of Geneva.

I am married and a cradle Catholic (just as my husband) that has grown up in the FSSPX (short for Sacerdotal Fraternity Pius X.) and has followed their teachings until about 2001 when I couldn't take it anymore and 'returned' to the Roman line of Catholicism.

My aim is to be gracious and demanding with my peers at the same time. Gracious with the ones that I cannot convince of the truth and in my prayer for their conversion and receving the grace of God and demanding in how they think and explain their thinking... the philosopher in me, I guess.

I am always open to help with questions about fundamental theology and scholasticism, with source material of any given author of the middle ages and of course give my personal insight on Saint Thomas Aquinas, Albert the Great et al. since I earn part of my PhD in editing and translating their texts.

  4. My name is Barbara and I am Father Roderick's #1 online fan. Why? I blame him for getting me to regularly listen to podcasts, buy an iPod and allow my son to play video games! I am *thrilled* a forum has returned to Fr. Roderick's site.

As my Twitter bio says, I am a "New Media Marketing Maven." I love my family, try to grow a garden every year & love baseball (especially the Cincinnati Reds). I am not a diva... right?

I look forward to good and fruitful discussions here!

  5. This is Lavona. My picture is delayed until I can get home since that site is blocked here at the office where I am a semi-retired person that is now working part-time as a financial analyst.

I was raised Lutheran and lived in Germany, France, and in over 20 US states growing up as an Air Forct Brat (my dad flew in WWII, The Berlin Airlift, and Korea where he was a POW for 2 years) my maternal grandparents gave me a lot of work ethic and moral soundness and I dearly loved my grandfather who was a WWI Disabled Veteran who lived to 103. ... My husband was born and raised in the greater Chicago area.

I knew that I needed to be Catholic when I was 12 but a wise priest told me that I had to wait until I was able to live away from my parents. When I married an agnostic, he was willing to go to church the first few years but would not go to a Catholic Mass so I waited until we'd been married 13 years and he'd lost interest before coming into the fullness of the faith which I continue to learn decades later. I'll be 66 in February and Richard and I have been married since 1963.

Details about me may be found on my Facebook Profile (Lavona S Rann) and at http://www.greatestnetworker.com/Lavona ... I am a volunteer administrator of the greatestnetworker community and a few other projects.

I'm very pro-Life, until recently volunteered for Birthright, pro-magesterium ... and love SPQN and have found many wonderful friends in ustream chats and on Plurk from this community. Thank you Fr. Roderick.

    Hello All,

I am Michael from the USA. I love baseball (Cincinnati Reds as well Barbara). I have been married to my lovely wife for 12 years and have three children 7, 6 & 4. I love to cook, watch sports (Sorry Fr. Roderick), read and most importantly spend time with my family. I look forward to these new forums and intelligent and lively discussions. I'd put up a picture but don't know how, so as you can tell I am not a techno wizard. I am a Maronite Catholic by birth, but have attended almost exclusively Roman Churches since 1996 and that is where my children are being raised. My wife is a convert to Catholicism about 6 years ago. Nice to meet everyone...

My name is Sarah and I live in Toronto, Canada. I've been listening to sqpn since I got my first iPod back in April.
I'm a cradle Catholic in in the process of discerning where God is calling me in my life.
About a year ago I ran away screaming from a PhD program in Comparative Literature, and since then I've been finding new ways to bring my two great loves together: my faith and literature. I'm currently running a "Faith Meets Fiction" book club at the local Pauline Books and Media centre and have just started teaching confirmation classes at my local parish.
I'm looking forward to meeting and getting to know more sqpn'ers on these forums.
I'll upload a picture when I get the chance.

  24. Hi, my friends, my name is Johannes and I'm from Munich/Germany.
I'm 23 years old and I'm a newlywed since 4th of October! It's so amazing to live a marriage according to the doctrins of the Holy Catholic Church!

My wife and I want to start a German Catholic Podcast, because there is no good one, yet.

The Podcasts of SQPN, especially Daily Breakfast and Rosary Army Catholic Podcast showed me that I really don't have to be afraid to do great works for God. And so I'm going to quit my job as an insurance broker in 2009 and start something more fulfilling, like studying Psychology or working as a Journalist.

Life is so beautiful if one knows Jesus!

  26. Hi I'm Sean. I live in central Ontario, Canada. I'm a Catholic father, teacher, musician, and podcaster.

I host the For the Sake of the song podcast about songwriters and songwriting at http://ductapeguy.net

My family also produces the Catholic New Media Roundup, a podcast dedicated to spotlighting all the ways that Catholics are using the new tools to spread the Good news. You can find it at http://cc.ductapeguy.net .

Oh, and I'm the doofus who's been sending the goofy voice feedback to many of the SQPN shows for a couple of years. Remember the 12 days of podcasting on RA?

  27. Hi, I'm Stefan and I live in California for some time now. But deep in my heart I'm still planning to go back to my Heimat some time: Bavaria. I'm a cradle catholic. Besides enjoying my little daughter I like photography, reading, cooking (indoor and outdoor) and hiking a lot. And, I am quite susceptible for any type of gadgets (computer, smart phone, GPS, digital camera, ...).

I started listening to Fr. Roderick way back when he was reporting life from Rome. I wish the Catholic Insider would come back.

  28. Hey, I'm Eve and I am a musician, singer , podcaster and blogger and am a convert of some years to the Church. I was born in Germany and have a German Mum and had British Dad and was brought up a Lutheran. There is an interesting story, but I joined the church at university. I have a career as a prof singer and married late and have a son who also likes music. We are originally from Wales but am living in the Cotswolds now.

I started listening to the Saint Cast and then discovered 'The Daily Breakfast' and really enjoyed it. I know Holland well and my grandfather was from Norden.

My favourite things on The DB are
    The Latin Segment,
    The Dutch Segment

My Most funny moment when I heard Father describe eating oysters, when I nearly drove off the road.

I love the Peculiar Bunch- because I think we are all qite mad in the sense of zany.I have learned so much from this

My fave sqpn programmes were the CI from Rome and then the podcasts from Ireland, which were lovely and thinking of Father walking along the misty paths on those cliffs was great as well the the Book of Kells Episode.

Least fave was Father eating deep fried haggis.....ugh!

Anyway, apologies to all Scots-love the place and been there lots-but it has the same effect on me as tripe and chips in Newcastle!

Listen to Catholic Answers as well. Admin a page on Facebook called We are Catholics of the British Isles and Friends. We have a thread on the Gunpowder Plot going at the moment! So Hello everyone!

  29. Hi all!

My name is Carleigh. I'm from Jackson, Mississippi, aka "the armpit of the universe." Being Catholic here is sometimes a little like being the green jelly bean in a jar full of blue ones. But that's okay, it's just a little hard to seat a choir.

See....I'm a choir director. And, a convert. Raised Episcopalian, I fell in love with the music of the Catholic Church circa about 1400-1600. When I converted, I discovered that music in Catholicism wasn't quite as, um, well, what I was thinking it would be.

We didn't even have children's music in my parish of 1700 families when I got here. My boss and I have worked extremely hard to build a program out of nothing. So, nowadays, I eat, sleep, and breathe Catholic Liturgy and music and kids and teenagers. I love it. I love the work, wouldn't trade it for anything.

Along the way...I have two children: a 15 yr old girl and a four year old boy who is autistic (Asperger's syndrome).

The American Federation Pueri Cantores keeps us all very very busy in choir, we travel a lot, and we're COMING TO ROME for the International Pueri Cantores Festival on New Year's Day at the Vatican 2011. Well, at least that's the vision. Talk to me again when I've raised the $30,000 we need to get there... *whew*

So...that's me. My great loves are Thomas a Kempis, The Cloud of Unknowing, St. Ignatius, St. Francis, Ghandhi, and Aquinas. I'm a contemplative mother in outer surburbia. I write poetry, do more marketing than any moral person should (all for the choir), and I pray and cry and laugh and sing. Cantate Domino!

    Carleigh

  30. Hi, My name is Rhonda. I live in Madison, WI, USA. I was confirmed into the Catholic church on Divine Mercy Sunday 2008! I took St. Faustina Kowalska as my confirmation saint! I read a lot of websites, listened to Relevant Radio, especially Fr. John Corapi & Fr. Larry Richards before entering RCIA. (Fr John Corapi and Fr Larry Richards are excellent teachers of the faith! I'd recommend them to any Catholic or potential convert!) I come from a "Bible Baptist" background in my childhood and a non-denominational "house church" in my adult years.

I think what helped my conversion the most was Eucharistic Adoration. I went to adoration on Wednesdays at Holy Redeemer and prayed, asking Jesus if he was really in the Eucharist. I received confirmation in my heart that He's really there! Divine Mercy helped me, too. There was a time in my life when I was pretty depressed. I asked God for mercy in my life and in the world in general a lot. Then I discovered pamphlets on Divine Mercy and St Faustina in the entry of Holy Redeemer. I thought, "Hey, I can ask Jesus for Mercy on myself and the world!" (I didn't have the usual "protestant hangups" about repetitious prayer, etc. ) Currently I'm reading St Faustina's diary. I could always pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet more and make more holy hours!

I like to knit. I like renting movies from Netflix. I am a bit addicted to Youtube & Myspace. I love the Saintcast. I enjoyed the Secrets of the Caribbean. I don't have internet at home, otherwise I'd be downloading and listening to many more SQPN podcasts!
